A typical industrial oil, which is used as a hydraulic fluid, generally powers up the hydraulic cylinder. It comprises of a combination of a mechanical assembly of a cylindrical barrel in which a piston rod that is connected to a piston, moves in to and fro motion. This assembly of the barrel is sealed on one end by the means of a cap and a cylinder head, which is known as the gland covers the other side of the cylinder from where the piston rod ventures out of the cylinder. The piston consists of seals and sliding rings. The internal structure of the cylinder is divided into two parts by the piston; generally, they are the cap end or bottom chamber and the head end or the piston rod side chamber.
The common mounting options in a cylinder are the clevises, flanges, lugs and trunnions. The piston rod also has attachments for mounting which connects the machine component or object to the cylinder that is being pushed or pulled by it.
The hydraulic cylinder is considered to be the motor or actuator in this system. The hydraulic pump, which is responsible for delivering oil in a regulated flow or fixed flow to the hydraulic cylinder for moving the piston, is considered to be the “generator” property of the assembly. Oil is being pushed by the piston at the back of the reservoir in the other chamber.
